Bump On Side Of Nose

That Lump in Your Throat May Be Acid Reflux
There is a very common condition called globus pharyngis that is best described as feeling like there is a lump in your throat. Though this condition can be caused by many different factors, acid reflux is one of the leading causes of globus pharyngis.

Forty five percent of the population will experience globus pharyngis at some time or another in their lives. It can feel either like a solid lump or ball in the throat, or as fullness in the throat, close to the area of the cervical esophagus. The strange thing about gobus pharyngis is that though there is a specific, definable sensation to the individual sufferer, there is no detectable abnormality in the throat when examined by a doctor.

Currently no single explanation has been accepted as actually causing the globus sensation, however, GERD or acid reflux is among the leading factors attributed to its existence. Other suspect conditions are hypertensive upper esophageal sphincter pressure, sinusitis, overclosure of the bite, anterior cervical osteophytes, and certain psychological disorders.
Therefore, to treat globus pharyngis, doctors must systematically eliminate each of the potential causes through several forms of examination. This often includes a thorough ear nose and throat examination using an esophagoscopy (a small instrument with a light and camera that is inserted into the throat). It may also require a Barium swallow or counseling services.

In the case of acid reflux causing globus pharyngis, it is much more common in women than in men (though it is not unusual for men to experience it), and usually occurs between the ages of 40 and 60. Men who do suffer from globus pharyngis will often also have a mild case of dysphagia, which is the feeling of food getting stuck in the throat. More rarely, men will present with a severe case of dysphagia along with the globus pharyngis. Young men are more likely to suffer from both conditions at the same time.

Among the most effective treatment for the globus pharyngis condition are counseling - to let the patient know that everything is alright and that they're not choking and their lives are not in any danger. Furthermore, treatment with rigid esophagoscopies will often ease if not eliminate the sensation.

To prevent the recurrence of globus pharyngis, treatment of GERD is recommended, as it is likely to be the cause in the first place. Speak to your doctor about your acid reflux and globus pharyngis symptoms to create a practical prevention strategy that can be worked into your lifestyle.

This will include instructions regarding changes to your diet both when you're preparing your foods at home and when you're eating out at restaurants, cafes, etc. You will likely be required to include some new foods into your diet, while reducing others that cause acid production to increase in your stomach, such as alcohol. You will also benefit from eating frequent, smaller meals throughout the day, instead of fewer large meals which cause your stomach to fill up and more acid to be produced, increasing the risk of reflux.

  6. QUESTION:
Red bump on SIDE of nose piercing?? HELP?? (stud)?
I got my nose pierced 6 weeks ago.

3 weeks ago I was on vacation and I not only swam in a chlorine pool with my 3 week old piercing, but I accidentally bumped it pretty hard. The next morning, I woke up with a yellow bump on the side. It was really infected so I squeezed all the puss out and soaked it in sea salt. It has been 3 weeks since then, and although the puss is gone, there is a big red/pink bump on the side of the nose piercing. The bump is gross, and it is even bigger than the actual stud! I am embarrassed to go out in public and am freaking out because of all the horror stories I have read. Everyone says if I take the piercing out the bump will be there forever? I can't figure out what it is, whether is is a keloid, hypertrophic scarring, or something else...it has been there for 3 weeks and I have been doing the sea salt soaks and everything. It's very unattractive. The bump seems a little bit hard, and it only hurts if you poke at it. Should I get a needle and try to pop it to see if anything else comes out?? What do I do, I need this hideous bump gone?
I think it is a keloid, it looks like this only more red.

    • ANSWER:
this happened to my little sister. I think she was told it was a blood vessel or something hanging out from the piercing. I think she had to take the piercing out to get it to heal. I would definitely go see a doctor if you wanna keep the piercing i think it runs high risk of infection now hun.

I just read that its because you have had a reaction to the metal in your nose which means its not medical implant grade. Go to a GOOD piercer and ask them to change the stud to a higher grade metal

  7. QUESTION:
bump on side of nose...cancer? cyst?
I noticed that one side of my nose wasn't exactly symmetrical to the other, however you can't tell this by looking at it; I just felt it. It seems that a little off centre to the left of my nose there seems to be a slight bump. like i said, it's the same colour as the rest of my nose and pretty much not noticeable even if you're looking directly at it. Any ideas? I'm afraid it's cancerous (I'm SO paranoid about skin cancer)...but im 20, female, dark hair, dark eyes, and a fairer olive skin type. I don't think its grown or anything either.

    • ANSWER:
dont worry just acne... no cyst no skin cancer... just wash your face and it will go away

  8. QUESTION:
Insecurity about this bump on the right side of my nose?
Lately I've been feeling really insecure about my nose. I have a bump that is only visible from the right side of my face. I am always trying to hide that side. I read a lot of articles that says "Nose continously grows/changes" is this true? I'm 18, I don't think it can change if I keep pinching/pulling it? My nose was just fine until I turned 15/16. I tried applying make up on the side of my nose but I guess I suck at make-up and all! And plus my Mother says that my skin is sensitive so I might get pimples. I get told many times that I am beautiful but I do get told that I have a nose like my Dad. What should I do? No surgeries!! I get really upset when I see beautiful girls with straight noses. People keep telling me I have beautiful cat eyes and all but I always keep paying attention to my nose.

    • ANSWER:
you really shouldn't worry about it, if no one else is noticing it, you shouldn't be either. pinching or pulling your nose isn't going to change the shape, surgery is really the only thing that can, and if people are already telling you you are beautiful, believe them!

  9. QUESTION:
Bump on side of nose after (virtually painless) injury at concert?
I was at a rock concert about a month ago and the dude standing directly in front suddenly started head banging, hitting me in the nose will the back of his head really hard. He apologized, and I wasn't worried at the time. I noticed in the days after, the area at the top of my nose was a little tender to the touch, but by no means painful. It also now felt like the bone in my nose protruded slightly further on one side than the other.

It stopped hurting soon after and I forgot about it, but the other day (1 month after the concert) mum said my nose was crooked. When I look in the mirror I can't tell, but sure enough when I feel both sides of my nose, on the right side the bone seems to stick out a lot more. I'm assuming it wasn't always like that, and is because of the injury at the concert.

Is my nose broken? It didn't hurt, so I don't think so. But then what is wrong with it? If it was just swelling, shouldn't it have gone down by now?

Is something knocked out of alignment? If so, can it be fixed? Should I see a doctor?

I'm not that worried about, because it's not noticable and I don't care too much about anything let alone my face. But I guess if it's as simple of a doctor cracking my nose or something, I might as well do it. Is that even possible?

i know what an underground pimple feels like, and this isn't it. my nose is swelled a little now on that side. like i said, it is sore to touch and very hard, like bony feeling. i am scared it is something awful. do you know what this could be? i don't want to freak out. please help.

    • ANSWER:
It could be a type of pimple called a "nodule." If so, you should not try to squeeze it. There's a picture of one here so you can verify if this is what it is: http://www.acne.org/types-of-acne.html

You should not try to self-treat for this type of pimple. If this is what you have, you need to see a dermatologist as soon as possible, as this is the kind that can cause permanent scarring. The sooner you can begin treatment, the better.

a bump has been forming on the side of my nose for a while, its very hard in texture what could it be?

  24. QUESTION:
Bump on the side of my nose stud?
I have a bump on my nose piercing, idk what it is or how to get rid of it,

    Any help or ideas?…

    • ANSWER:
When a piercing place pierces your nose, they must go through cartilage to do so. Often times, piercing places do not use hollow needles. If they don't then the cartilage from the middle of the piercing hole simply gets pushed to the outside. This causes the bump you are referring to.

Unfortunately, there is no way to get rid of this bump.

This is a sign that the place you visited to have your piercing done is not a high-quality piercing parlor. A good piercing parlor will use a hollow needle, which then removes the piece of cartilage in question, preventing that bump from forming.

Next time, make sure you use a piercing place that uses hollow needles.

its probably infected. you should take out the piercing, clean the hole, maybe add a little neosporin to the outside of your nose before going to bed, clean the nose ring with some rubbing alcohol and put it back in. if you want to, add ice to the area to relieve the swelling.

  40. QUESTION:
How to get rid of big red bump on side of my nose?
I tried reading other similar questions, but most say theirs do not hurt. This bump hurts A LOT. Even if I don't touch it (ex: I flare my nostrils) I've had it for two days now, and it just seems to get bigger and redder. I'm not quite sure if it's a zit, it doesn't have a head or anything. Although it's all red, with a tiny white dot in the middle. I didn't try to pop it or anything because A.) it hurts. and B.) it hurts.

Anything I can put on it?

I have no trouble covering it up, I have makeup, so please don't suggest that. I want to get rid of it so I can sleep.

    • ANSWER:
Since it hurts my best advice is don't use toothpaste (it will be suggested) a. it's for teeth b. it can burn you it's for teeth
and c. make this already hurtful area worse.

Take a hot compress to it a lot. Clean wet wash cloth if you heat in the micro it gets nice and warm. Apply, repeat.
Use an acne face wash and apply acne cream to help draw out the bacteria and dry it up.
If the center gets white take a clean sterile pin to the center this will help some of the painful (Puss) to drain.
It sounds like a 'blind' pimple which can be very painful.

Use products tested and designed for the face. :)
      Good Luck.

Because, where it is broken, the bone creates this bump on one side of my nose, and i was wondering if once he puts that bone back into place (where it was before i got injured) if the bump will go away as well?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,

My husband had his deviated septum repaired, but it didn't change the bump on his nose. The procedure mainly corrects the airway in your nose, allowing you to breathe more fully.

If you want the bump on your nose fully corrected you would probably have to get a rhinoplasty procedure (cosmetic surgery) in addition to having your deviated septum repaired.

I have this bump!? its on the side of the piercing,......
okaii well its been great till i got my nose stud caught in a blanket, it pulled it out.
it didn't hurt at the time i quickly found it and cleaned it and put it straight back in
now a couple days later i have this bump!? i have had my nose pierced for about 3-4 weeks now
also i should add.. i know it was silly of me but i tried poping the bump, but all it did was bleed only a little bit, sting of about 3 seconds and go red.
after that i boiled hot water and put in a teaspoon of salt. and used a cotton bud and cleaned around my nose. (The piercer told me to clean it like this the day i got it done)
after that i sprayed it with ADNOHR spray ear care Antiseptic (also what the piercer gave me)

Any advise i really don't want to have an infected nose. and i certainly do not want to take it out
    thanks!! ~

  47. QUESTION:
Red bump on the side of my nose piercing...what should I do?
I got my nose pierced in the middle of April and the guy used a gun. He told me not use any alcohol on it, spin it a couple of times a day and if it hurts or swells up put oil on it, well I never had a problem till now. There is a red bump, almost zit like on the side of my piercing and it fills up with blood and once i popped it. Should I clean it with alcohol or what should I do? My piercing has a ball at the end of it and it doesn't screw off... should I take it out or what? I really am worried that it might be infected... Please only answer if you know what you are talking about...

    • ANSWER:
nose piercings are prone to those bumps, DON'T put alcohol on it but you can do chamomile tea(no sugar or honey or anything, just water and the tea) soaks and sea salt soaks. a tiny dab of tea tree oil on the bump ONLY,not on your piercing, can help shrink the bump too

and know this for future reference, the guns aren't even suitable for ear piercing, so you could imagine how bad that is for a nostril..
soo don't go back to whoever that was
and stop rotating your jewelry too!

  48. QUESTION:
i've got a bump on either side of my nose piercing. please read... it wont go away... help?!?
i got my nose pierced on the left side 3 years ago. i had a bump, about 1.5mm high on each side of the hole (inside my nostril and on my face) appear about a month after i got it pierced. I removed it myself with scissors and tea tree oil and it didnt come back.

2 months ago, i got the other (right) side pierced and a similar bump appeared, again inside my nostril and on the outside of my nose. im sure its the same thing. ive tried everything though, tea tree oil, cutting it off, surgical spirit, leaving it alone... i cant think of anything else. every time it goes, it comes back within two days.

its really stressing me out as it feels as though the skin is burning everytime i put something on it. i'm wearing sterling silver jewelery in it so it's not that.
the piercing place was highly recommended and ive had other piercings done there fine, it's just the way my body reacts.

Bottom line is, i want this gone, as its making me very concious of something that's meant to improve the way i'd like to look. plus it cost me £35 so i'm not taking it out, i know it can be fixed.

    PLEASE, PLEASE HELP! :( x x
as for what came out of the bump - its not an infection, it's literally just a lump of hard skin. i tired cutting this one off when it got big and it seemed to go away but CAME BACK.

    • ANSWER:
You should see a doctor! Don't ever "cut a bump" by yourself like that ever again! You could have got an infection. Don't play doctor! Take care of yourself right.

  49. QUESTION:
how to get rid of bump on the side of a nose piercing?
I got my nose pierced over a year ago and a month or so after that, I had a keloid. It lasted for about 2 months and then went away...My nose piercing was perfectly fine until the other day when it accidentally came out while I was drying my face with a towel. I put it back in and since then it has hurt very badly and it even has a small bump similar to a year ago on the side of it. I don't know the best course of action for making the bump go away and the pain stop?

    • ANSWER:
Sounds to me like it might be infected. (Caused by putting it back in dirty). Even if you think it wasn't dirty, you should have sterilized it first before putting it back in. That little bump could be filled with pus...(kinda like a zit). Don't pop it though...PLEASE. Just clean it well with antibacterial soap and warm water (like when you got it pierced) on the outside and swab a Q tip on the inside with hydrogen peroxide. A little Neosporin on the piercing at night couldn't hurt either.

    • ANSWER:
I don't see anything from the pictures, but it is probably just a pimple. Some pimples develop deeper in the skin (these are usually more painful). There isn't much you can do about it. Try using a hot compress (dip a washcloth in steaming water and press it against your nose). The steam will open your pores and maybe clean them out. However, the best thing to do would just be to leave it alone. If it doesn't go away in a week or so, see a dermatologist.
